Hi. Never used a top tap. As I understand it there's quite a few bits involved.

    Drawbacks of a bottom tap:
Plastic distorts under pressure and the threads or tap itself can leak.
Usually small diameter hole in the top so cleaning can only rely on water (pressure washer works well) and cleaning solutions.
Cap seal can distort or slip out of the recess and lose pressure.

Other than that, they seem OK.

If you're not living on the edge..... you're taking up too much space!!

Planning: - To get some more brews on now the weather's a bit cooler
    Fermenting: - Ginger Beer experiment
Conditioning: - A normal bitter with Styrians
    Drinking: - All of it!!

    Hi Outlaw.

I've been using bottom tap King Kegs for about a year now.

I went for the bottom tap after reading many, many web sites of opinion and the outcome was that the top tap was more fiddly due to the floating tap, which had a habit of overturning and therefore not dispensing properly. Also, beer clears and conditions from the top down so, while you're drawing off the top you're getting a more false idea of how well the rest of the barrel has conditioned. Okay, I suppose if, like most people on this forum, you're too impatient to give it the proper time to mature.

Anyway, my experience with the bottom tap King Kegs has been extremely positive. As long as you vasoline the hell out of the inner part of the lid and the outside of the tap you should have no issues and she will dispense right down till near the very end wth no extra CO2 needed.

As for cleaning; I can get my whole arm in there wth a garden hose or a soapy cloth gripped in my hand. No bother.
