Kegerated beer / lager
New to everything. My first batch ( 5 gall ) Coopers Australian lager been fermenting now for 6 days from 27C to 22C.Very occaisional bubble in air lock, hydrometer 1.012 I think. Can I keg ( Cornelius keg ) this now. Does anyone know what pressures to use to carbonate and for how long. Should the keg be agitated. Does the keg have to be kept at a constant pressure when lager not being dispensed ???? .

I would wait for a while before kegging as cornies want clear beer so there is no sediment at the bottom to pull up. If the beer is gonna be fridge temp then 20psi for 2 days at fridge temp aggitating it every now ans again then 2psi to serve. I keep mine connected and on at 2psi but others take the co2 disconnect off and just attach it when more pressure is needed.
Thats what I used for mine, but I have only done this once and I got a lot to learn!

Well I kegged the lager anyway, cloudy such as it was. Rolled the keg on the floor for 5 minutes, switched fridge on for the first time and put everything inside and left it at 20psi. I understand you can cut off about an inch of the long tube in the Corney to avoid sediment, but of course you waste some lager. I understand under normal circumstances you can leave the keg pressurised at around 15psi and serve between 2-5psi. Bottled some of the lager but it looked terrible and tasted just as foul, hope it all improves with age.

Hi Cliff, hope your beers improves (I'm sure it will) as doesn't sound too appealing yet. The Coopers Lagers get great reviews so hopefully you'll be fine.
I tend to pressure my kegs upto around 15psi then disconnect. Leave for a week then drop down to around 2 psi to serve. Mine are not in a fridge (Yet) but just in my garage.

Thanks Greg, Hope my Cooper's lager improves with age. I prefer beer and about to make Woodforde's Wherry as I am told it has a similarity to Spitfire and Speckled Hen, which I like very much. I have kept the pressure at 20psi for two days, and agitated the keg at various times, which I guess doesn't help with the sediment settling. I'll do as you did and disconnect, and see what happens.
