Hello everyone.

After kegging my first kit today (a Wherry), just thought I'd share my experiences as a newbie as they may help others.

I washed and sterilised the fv and treated the water with half a campden tablet as advised. Mixed the ingedients as per instructions on the box. I took an O.G. reading-it looked about 1.040 to my untrained eye. My brew started bubbling nicely after about 24 hrs and continued for about 6 days.

I left it in the fv until 2 weeks (today), as saracen advises on one of his posts. There were only a few speckles of sediment on top of the wort and it had a lovely "beery" smell (stronger than I expected!). It also looks pretty clear already, and there was a nice yeasty sludge at the bottom of the fv. I took another hydrometer reading of 1.010, abv 3.9% (I think!).

Sanitised my keg and half a dozen bottles with dandan's no rinse videne recipie and kegged/bottled my beer.

I had a cheeky taste (couldn't resist!) of the dregs out of the siphon tube and it tasted of, well, beer!

I think I'll have a little taste at weekly intervals to learn a bit about how the beer matures.

Thanks for the advice to my earlier posts, they helped a lot!

I have to say I've enjoyed the whole process and at the end I've got have 40 pints of beer! What's not to like!?!

Right, a golden ale next I think...

Mark.

Good man, your way sounds spot on to me, just make sure you try to save some over the next 2 months - it really does change and age well over time.

What golden ale will you be doing then?

Drinkin' - nowt, it's all gone

Thinking of doing the St Peters Golden Ale, Muntons Premium Gold Midas Touch or Woodfordes Great Eastern.

The Brewferm Ales look really good to me too, and then possibly when my confidence grows I'll progress to an extract recipe from this site (Summer Ale or Way To Amarillo look great).

    Cheers.

Just had a little taste of the Wherry after a week in the keg.
It has quite a good head already, but doesn't taste much different to the day I kegged it.
Interesting to see how it matures.
