TonyJaipur IPA (Thornbridge)

1 year ago | Tony (Member)

Went into town on Thursday and found this on tap in two pubs... it is one of the best beers I have ever tasted. I hear that the bottled version doesn't live up, but if you see this in a pub - get it! I managed to get three in before the missus started asking how many times I'd been to the bar!

Oh.. sorry, meant to add this but forgot (its birthday is tomorrow - I'd love the poster but I can pretty much guess what the missus would say if she caught me with blutak and heading toward the bedroom.)

    Tony,

I am with you on this one. I found it at the Cambridge Beer Festival and had to have a pint of it there and then. Plus the local real ale shop in Norwich also had the bottled version in stock. I think it's almost identical can't see the issue really.

I can see why Oz Clarke and James May raved about it in their programme about beer this time last year. I'd recommend getting back down to your local and having another pint. I am sure Mrs Tony will be happy for you to be out from under her feet for a couple of hours.

That looks like a really nice combination of hops Greg. The chinook, whilst being a great bittering hop, has a lovely edge which rests on the sides of the tongue a long time after drinking. The williamette I am starting to love!
Christ, I'm strating to sound like a beer-bore!

I totally agree, Jaipur was on tap as a guest ale at the Gwaelod Y Garth Pub in Cardiff (CAMRA award last year) and we kept going back for it. REally tasty, hoppy, thirst quenching beer. It's also one of the first to sell out at the Cardiff beer festival.

    Planning; ESB AG
    FV;Hopback Summer Lighting (1st AG)
    Conditioning;Tettnang
Drinking; Geordie Lager, Rocker APA and Thunderbolt
Finished; Way to Amarillo, Coopers IPA

Still think it's one of the best beers I've ever tasted - along with (as Nath says) the Proper Job.

    Making me thirsty!

Drinking it now and I agree, it's a great pint.

A lot paler than I expected with almost no colour at all but beautiful hop flavours! I don't want to sound like oz Clarke but I definitely get grapefruit and lemon zest!

I'm lucky enough to have a mate who's a brewer for Thornbridge, so I'm well acquainted with Jaipur..

I love their beers, and haven't really had one yet that I could even describe as average. I know it's nowt to do with the thread, but if you ever see a St Petersburg (Imperial Russian Stout), or a Raven (Black IPA), get as many as you can ... !

I don't have it Jim, I don't think they would give that one away I'm afraid. Tony had a stab at it last year, should be on here somewhere.

I do have some recipes from Hopback Brewery coming soon though.

Yeah .. it wasn't too far away, but not spot on I'm afraid. Trouble is with something like this, is you will always compare it to the one you are copying - rather than a pint in its own right.

Give it a go though - it's still a lovely beer!
