If You Thought WYeast...
...was expensive then take a look at this.
I recently fired off an email to the Hefebank Weihenstephan enquiring about buying some wheat beer yeast. They replied today with a suggested strain and prices.
Hello,
lines below you can see the answer of our office regarding the conditions of the prices for our products of Pure Culture Yeasts.
For your brewing size I recommend you the pure culture yeast liquid
500 ml aluminium bottle because you can use it directly for your brew and there is no more propagation step necessary.
With our other products you would need intermediate propagation steps to multiply the yeast until it reaches the required volume.
For the similar yeast strain to Kloster Andechs I recommend you the strain W 175.
If you have any further questions please contact us.
Kind regards,
Dipl.-Ing. Josef Schraml

Christ Nath that's something else!
Ask the same question of Brewlabs and see what they suggest. When I emailed them about yeast for my Jaipur they offered to make me up a 1 ltr starter for free if I pay the postage. I'll stick up full details when I post the recipe. I've got them looking into mead yeast at the moment!
