Brew UK Forum | Beer Kits
I have fizzy wherry...
I have fermented my Wherry kit, all was done as per instructions and all went to plan with a final density of 1012 starting at 1045
Barrelled with extra 85g household sugar and has been secondary fermnenting for about 2 weeks now...
i tatsed a bit the other day and whilst it tatses really nice, its quite fizzy!!
im wondering whether too miuch co2 is being produced and the valve on the barrel may not be releasing enough so its all being absorbed by the drink...
any thoughts?

That sounds likely.
The solubility of CO2 is temperature dependant.
Check this out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide_%28data_page%29
So if you're storing you beer cold (such as in the shed/garage) it'll be fizzer than if it were stored in the house.
Where is the beer kept, and what keg have you got?

Ive got the barrel that comes with the Wherry Brewning kit from this website...the screw top i have on and is the one that accepts co2 canisters (i have not been manually adding co2, im just using that particular cap)...
the barrel is kept inside, in a room we dont use under neath the window, which can get quite cold of an evening, but i was under the impression the ale was ment to be kept at a cool temperature during secondary fermentation...
cheers

Hello there. You'll find as you drink a bit there will be less Co2 being produced and the beer will become less fizzy. Its often quite fizzy for the first few pints.
You could try adding less sugar in the future which will help.
Regards
Greg.
