I have a stevenson hydrometer. A reading of 1072 would indicate if fermenation was taken down to 1000 of a alcohol level of 12% however, the online calculators seem to offer around the 9.5% mark. Where am I going wrong?

I worked it out to be around 9.5% og - fg devided by 7.39 should give you about that value. How were you getting that figure?

Hi Nath, well... Reading around the the side of the Hydrometer reads across from 1072 bring you to a potential alcohol reading of 12%....

    I wonder if that is for wines, which normally ferment below 1.000. In that case 1072 - 985 / 7.39 = 11.77%

thats the only thing I can think of at the mo
