User has not uploaded an avatarHow to modify beer kit

1 year ago | PhilB (Member)

Hi there,

I've been given a Black rock new zealand bitter (and a pilsner) with a muntons beer kit improver (1kg), 500g light spray malt and a 100g of goldings. Has anyone got any tips for using these together to improve the kit

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil, I would make the kit up as usual (using the beer kit enhancer instead of sugar) then try dry hopping with the goldings (say 20g) after primary fermentation. If you don't fancy dry hopping then you could make up a hot tea by steeping the hops in some boiling water, then add this to the fermenter to boost the hop aroma.

    Hope this helps.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.
    Fermenting:
    Conditioning:Pale with Styrians
    Drinking:Cascade Pale Ale, Summer Lightning

After my last 2 experiences with dry hopping I would dry hop like Greg says, but I would be a devil and double the dry hops!

    Conditionin'/Drinkin' - OPA Pale
    Conditionin' - LEB Pale
    Conditionin' - Thwaits Nutty Black
    Plannin' - A user upper!

    Greg & Nath,

Thanks for the advice and the fast response. That sounds great I'll do that and report back. After smelling the hops I'm thinking of doing one of your dry extract kits next. If you don't mind more questions what are the difference between those and the brewer's choice kits.

Thanks for all your help and a great forum.

    Phil
