I'm a complete newbie and am finding I can't stay off this site at the moment. I have a Wherry under way (3 days) and this will go into a barrel. I'm interested in doing a Lager in time for Christmas and bottling it, my question is, "How do I prevent any sediment going into the bottle?". I want to give some, a few, well a couple of bottles to the father and brother in-law as I think they'll appreciate it. But I wouldn't want the lager to have bits in it.

Gentlemen, this site is a fantastic resource, thank you on behalf of all knowledgeless newbies.

Oh and what lager would people recommend?

This is a little bit expensive but look at this innovation I posted a little while ago:

    Sediment Free Bottles

    You'll need screw cap bottles.

Planning: Something with Styrians, Discovery Clone
    Fermenting:
    Condtioning:
    Drinking: Twibute Clone, PJ Clone

I think you'l always have the yeast settle at the bottom of bottles & barrels, this should more often than not compact in bottles given a couple of weeks at least.

Transfering your beer from the first fermenting vessel to another empty vessel after fermentation is complete helps your question. I myself do this to get rid of more yeast & trub sediment. I usually go for 1 week in primary then transfer into secondary for a week. Keep bottles inside for a week at least before storing in a garage/shed etc.

Lager seems alot of hard work due to lower ferment temps etc, but dont let me put you off.....im a defeatest!
