Hop Seed Hunt
Hi
Does anyone know where I can get Feminised hop seeds? I know a place where you can get the plant but these seem a little expensive @ £15 a pop.
I have my own alotment so plenty of space to grow up my runner bean frames. I know that I have missed this years but am planning on doing a load next year as I understand they dont need alot of care as they are a hardy plant. With a baby on the way, time on the alotment next year will be minimal!! Probably just be potatoes & hops!!
Cheers
Gareth

I don't know if this works as I haven't had any success yet, although I've been trying to germinate the seed this April and June, but I collected loads of seeds from the bags the dried hops came in. If you rub the hops between your fingers onto a plate, then carefully pick them off, you'll find seeds left behind. Some have far more seeds than others and you can find information about which are tall and dwarf varieties on the net. Fuggles and Goldings have loads of seeds but can grow to 18 feet tall.
Planning: - To get some more brews on now the weather's a bit cooler
Fermenting: - Ginger Beer experiment
Conditioning: - A normal bitter with Styrians
Drinking: - All of it!!

£15 is a bit steep .. this place have put the price up this year - (but who hasn't?), but still can do you a plant for around a tenner. I think with this you have to balance the cost of a good quality plant which over the years will give you Kgs of wonderful hops - against the cost of buying them.
