    Nice one Varnish.

    Why the short brew length?

    Planning:Maybe a lager.
    Fermenting:
    Conditioning:Pale with Styrians
    Drinking:Cascade Pale Ale, Summer Lightning

Because I don't have anywhere to keep it (keg wise), so I am going to bottle this one.
And I hate bottling, so I'll make it short to save myself from physical and mental injury.

Every now and then, my missus looks over my shoulder when I'm in here. She firmly believes that I'm already mentally injured.

    Ha! Little does she know!

Hmmmmm, looking at Greg's and Dan's recipes, I may be over hopping this one.

I feel that I should remove the Amarillo steep and the dry hops.
Or should I just stick with it?

There's only one way to find out :o)

You're still only at the 60 IBU mark here.

I personally would stick with the steep and see how it tastes after primary.

I've got nearly 180g total amount of hops going into my brew, so I wouldn't worry.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.

    Ha!

Oops ... my 4 year old was asking me if she could do 'letters' and has mysteriously disappeared now ... I can see why!
    Sorry!
I have been at the brews though .. had to brave a trip out for bread and milk ... so grabbed an Abbot while I was there.
(That's the brew by the way - not a bloke in a monastery!)

Thought so. I had to do the same mission earlier although its a mile to the nearest shop and I had to walk as we can't get out of out road at the moment.

It seems to be bad everywhere .. I don't drive so walk everywhere anyway - mind you, it may be cold and wet but it's rather beautiful strolling along!

I guess being in London you can walk or use public transport to get everywhere.
Where I live you pretty much need a car as there is only 1 bus every hour.

I'll stick with the steeped hops and taste to see if I think dry hopping is needed.

That's true, transport here is pretty good when I need it - much rather walk though - stick on the ipod and the world just melts away .. walking along is my time, turn off the phone, music on .. nobody to bother me :o)

If I could only master walking and drinking at the same time :o)

    Good plan with the hops!

You need one of these Tony:

But wouldn't it just syphon out? I guess you'd have to down the cans in one.
Unless there's a valve in the beer line. That would make sense.

    Ummm....

I've kind of fallen behind on this forum brew thing.
I don't think I'm going to be able to do this brew in time.

Mostly due to buying a new cam for the project engine, and a nitrous kit for daily drive. Which has left me slighter poorer than I wanted to be this month.

I'll definitely be taking part in the next forum brew though.

That's a shame but no problem. Not a big problem if you can brew in a couple of weeks though, don't think anyone else would mind too much as these brews will definately benefit from some extended conditioning.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.

yeah whats the big rush, it just means I will have to give greg some bottles to condition as no doubt I will drink em all.

Funny one the higher ibu as mine dont taste much more bitter than my 36ibu one.

    Ooh-err getting worried!

If you haven't already exchanged the forum brew go ahead without me. I don't want to hold this up.

No problem both of you. We'll start thinking about the next one for a couple of months time. It was fun doing the recipes and labels anyway!

Anyone got any suggestions to the style?

    Steam beer/ale.
    Stout.
Cream ale (I don't know anything about cream ales).
    English bitter.

English bitter sounds great but a cream or a steam sounds good as I have never tried em. Steamy creamy!

Would appear that a cream ale is quite similar to a steam beer. Top fermented at warmish temperatures with lager yeasts then cold conditioned. Sounds interesting to me.

I do like the sound of Steam Beer, its one i've wanted to brew for a while now, most seem to feature Northern Brewer Hops!

Cream Ales under go a long cold-conditioning period and use corn and rice are used to lighten the body and flavor!

    Cracking idea folks!
I love the 'Scream Beer' name and am already imagining the label!
I've only ever had one cream ale and it was rather good!

Not sure if you are interested but we have the Wyeast 2112 Cal Lager for £3.5 at the moment. They are the propagators (which need a starter making) which we are selling off as we are replacing with the activators but they are the perfect yeast for Steam Beer. We only have 3 left so just thought I would give you all a heads up.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.
