1 year ago | kilconlea (Member)

Guys

Going for the GW Tim Taylor Landlord extract next. Not sure if there's any need to use a yeast other than safale s04? From a bit of googling it appears TT use their own strain.

Also the recipe calls for Styrians, there are more than one type listed on this site (Bobek/Celeia/Savinski/Unnamed), will any work? And what's the diff between leaf and pellets?

Thanks

Fermenting; Golden Lager, St Peters Golden
Conditioning; Diabolo, TTL
Planning; SNPA
Drinking; Headcracker, Pinot Grigio, WTA

I'm using this strain (Wyeast 1469 West Yorkshire) with a Landlord clone, its in the FV right now. I'll report back on how it goes.

As for the hops, I'm using the 'ordinary' styrians. I'm guessing there's not a huge difference in flavour.

Planning: Hobgoblin clone, Deuchars IPA clone
    Fermenting: Timothy Taylor Landlord
    Conditioning:
Drinking: Summer Lightning, Wadworth 6X clone

Hops v pellets.... They both have pros and cons.

Leaf - looks cool, easy to filter through but also oxidise easier and suck up more wort.

Pellets - Better hop utilisation (only by a bit tho 10% or less), but will clog up the boiler if not careful and can get a lot into fermenter.

I always go leaf, love the look, texture and smell of em!

Drinkin' - nowt, it's all gone
    Plannin'-
Loads a beer after an upgrade!

    Thanks guys

Think I'll wait for the yeast to become available before ordering and use the leaf Styrians.
There's an empty barrel in the garage winking at me, think I'll be ordering up something else in the meantime.... far too impatient to wait 2 weeks.
