Mark from SouthendFruit fly's

10 months ago | Mark (Member)

Has anybody had any trouble with fruitfly's recently or in the past?
Earlier today i caught just the 1 flying around my airlocks of the wine and cider i have on the go.
Got it no problem, also the lids were on the airlocks so nothing to really worry about but it does pee you off when you know they can miraculously appear from nowhere. Must be the sweet fumes attracting it/them.

Planning-Connoiseur Johannisberg Riesling
Fermenting-Nowt
Conditioning-Proper Job Comp Beer,Kenridge White Merlot
Drinking-Raspberry/Lime cider,Grenache Blush Rose,Coopers modified lager
SG Chardonnay Wine

    hi,

fruit flies are attracted by over ripped, fermenting fruits, they don't know, that you have an cider going. for them it is a huge, funny looking apple. as long you have enough water in the air look, that they cant fly in the cider, you shouldn't have any problems. some of them will may try to have a bath in the air look water, as they assume its part of the solid fruit.

all fine, as long you are not a fruit fly

House is full of them! Darned things seem to be completely immune to fly spray.

If you're not living on the edge..... you're taking up too much space!!

Planning: - To get some more brews on now the weather's a bit cooler
    Fermenting: - Ginger Beer experiment
Conditioning: - A normal bitter with Styrians
    Drinking: - All of it!!

    Hi Saracen,

Had the same issue with Fruit Flys. If you have any golden syrup, spread some on a piece of card, then put the card on a dish with a couple of teaspoons of wine or beer. I caught hundreds this way...

    Hope this helps
