Filtered Water
Hi - first time kit brewer here, and have been advised to use filtered water if possible, but don't have a water filter. Can anyone suggest if bottled water might be better than the usual tap stuff?

Some people use bottled water, they seem to use the cheapest 'Sping' water available. Tap water is fine though, just drop a crushed Campden tablet in it before you brew.
If you want to filter your water use a Water Gem filter, its easy to rig up to the tap with a hose lock type attachment and a bit of syphon tube.

Like the look of that filter Hamish but think will get one from here as a little bit cheaper, more money for brewing

I did think about filters but im in 2 minds - if I knew what was coming out of the filter so I could adjust my treatments then it would be fine. I wonder if breweries use filters at all?

Only thing I can say is the tap water in Southampton where I live is very metallic tasting, where as once filtered it's very neutral/tasteless. At the moment I have not progressed into water treatment, how ever I would like to in the future and guess knowing what's in the water is very important. But for now I'll be filtering as any foreign taste I can remove from the start has to be an improvement to the end product, and as bottled water can add an extra few pounds to the brew cost this filter will pay for it's self quite soon(and as the misses is using it for her drinking water too)

Many thanks for the advice everyone. Looking forward to cracking on - probably with bottled water or with campden tablets as I'm not sure I have time to rig up a filter yet.
