Fermentation Fermentation Fermentation
Hello all,
So I finally got my beer brewing (Coopers Cerveza Lager) Stuck it in Sunday evening and seemed to be fermenting nicely pretty quickly.
So after 48 hours at a constant 24 degrees (In between 21-27 as suggested optimum) It seems to be slightly dying down. There is a pretty good smell coming off although a little bit sulphery in places a nice white froth and some clear bubbles too but it certainly hasnt gone mad (or I havent seen it bubble like crazy).
Question is, is this OK or correct should this be happening basically? The instructions say about 6 days until it should be finished so cant believe it is starting to clear already. It did go in slightly under temp at 18 degrees instead of the 21 but i wacked the yeast in to sort this out.
If anyone has any advice etc it would be much appreciated as it has been a long time coming so am pretty nervous and hope I havent screwed the whole thing up.
Thanks very much in advance for any advice.

Sounds all fine to me!
The sulphery smell could be happening if it is a lager yeast as they tend to give off these smells. The only way to tell if its ready is if you have a constant hydrometer reading for 2 days, but if you dont have a hydrometer then leave it for 10 days before you keg/bottle.
48 hours is plenty of time for the yeast to go mad and things will calm down from here on.
All in all, sounds very good. Nothing to worry about al all!

Thanks very much for the reply Nath,
I do have a hydrometer my OG reading was between 1026 and 1036 I couldnt see exactly as there was a bit of head when I mixed it at the time and I was more worried about contaminating the beer than a specific reading.
I have taken a reading today pretty much exactly 4 days after the OG and that has now dropped to 1022, I still have a few light bubbles so it must still be fermenting.
I am going to continue to measure it until Sunday which will be exactly 7 days. Will it drop dramatically on the Hydrometer?
At the moment if it was to drop at the same speed it wouldnt be much more than 2% which would be rather dissapointing.
Thanks again

Give it till sunday and see what it says on the hydrometer, if its way off the final gravity then you can "rouse" the yeast to ferment the brew until you reach final gravity, but I think it will be fine and you wont need that. I remember my first brew, checking constantly, worrying.... after you do a few more you wont worry....but you still constantly check!

So since my last update I am pleased to say it has dropped down to 1016 yesterday and then dropped down to 1011 today.
Am going to keep testing it and wait until sunday when I reckon it should be ready to bottle.
It is still bubbling but only very slightly now. Smells pretty good. So with a bit of luck I think it will be all good. Heres to hoping anyway.
Will be buying another kit at the end of the month when I get paid to start
