Disappearing yeast
Hi all
I have a confession...
Half way through September, I was given 12k of red grapes - isn't Freegle wonderful! - so found the most traditional recipe I could (well almost, I decided I'd rather not use the natural wild yeast) and went ahead with it.
When it came time to add the yeast (a burgundy bought from Greg) I couldn't find it! I have a suspicion that it will one day materialize among my kiddies toys... so... I did the only thing I could at 8.30 on a Saturday evening and used the only yeast I had .. a SafAle 04.
Has anyone else ever used beer yeast in a wine?
When I racked it into the demijohn it seemed fine..... time will tell!

Hi Tony, no I have never had to use a beer yeast to make wine. I'm surprised it handled the high ABV of a wine.
What was your starting gravity?
Fermenting:
Conditioning:Pale with Styrians
Drinking:Cascade Pale Ale, Summer Lightning

Yes ... odd isn't it. Starting gravity was 1090, which is slightly lower than I was expecting.

I would have thought the S04 would have really struggled with that OG and that would have been my main concern.
If its managed to ferment okay then it should turn out alright. I would be really interested to see how it turns out.
