Hello all,

Apologies for what will be a long and painful post for many people here. I am completely new to all this and some of the term/wording etc is really confusing me.

I will commence brewing Coopers Cerveza next week but have quite a few questions. So here it goes and apologies in advance, and a big thank you to any help I may receive.

So I am fine with setting my temp steralising etc but this is where things get confusing.....

So I have sanitised, added my can into the mix and got the correct temp am I then supposed to add the pack of yeast supplied into the mix and mix thoroughly?

Then take my Hydrometer reading and sealing?

Finally at any point during this operation of filling the bucket with the mix am I supposed to add my brewing sugars? There are no details of this in the instructions, and if sugar is to be added how much should I be adding?

Sorry about all of that I am so confused and am not sure whether I am over complicating the process but dont want to get it wrong on the first go.

Thanks

Adam

    Hey withnail.

Did you have a set of instructions with the kit?
I'm not familiar with that kit, but if extra sugar is needed it's usually added when you add the barley syrup and dissolve it all in the water in one go.
Coopers are usually a Can and Kilo kit.
So you add the can and a kilo of sugar to the fermentation bucket add the water and you're laughing.

This way when you take the gravity at the start you'll be able to check it against the final gravity and calculate the ABV of your beer.

    Happy brewing.

Cheers Varnish and Hamish have spoken to a friend who has just completed his kit. You are correct its a can and kilo job which i bought. Take hydrometer reading add yeast leave for 6 days take reading and to prime an extra 4g of caster sugar per 500ml

Thanks for the extra advice though

Hi there Withnail and welcome aboard. Only other thing worth pointing out is that can and kilo kits make very disappointing beer. Next time, try the Woodfordes Wherry 3 kilo kit or any of their other kits. Yes, it's more expensive, but the end product is so much better.... and the instructions and method are dead easy. Good luck and keep asking the questions.

If you're not living on the edge..... you're taking up too much space!!

Planning: - To get some more brews on now the weather's a bit cooler
    Fermenting: - Ginger Beer experiment
Conditioning: - A normal bitter with Styrians
    Drinking: - All of it!!

Hi there, I got to disagree with Saracen, I have done a few one can kits and a few two can (premium) kits. The one can kits although inferior can be greatly enhanced using Muntons Beer Kit Enhancer instead of normal sugar. The two can kits are excellent though especially Woodfords Nog. Hopefully the Cerveza will turn out well, I tried the Coopers Draught and that was a pleasant session ale that went down easy.

Planning - Single Hop Pale Ale.
    Fermenting - Coopers Canadian Blonde
Conditioning - Coopers Pilsner, Coopers English Bitter
    Drinking - None
