simonb_13Copper Wort Chiller

1 year ago | simonb_13 (Member)

Just been looking at this in the Shop section. It says that there are no connectors supplied. So I'm guessing that it's just got two lengths of plastic piping.

My question is can I use Hozelock connectors direct on to the piping or is it the wrong diameter pipe?

Hi Simon, yes just 2 pieces of pipe attached to each end.

I connect mine to a hose pipe using some screw type clamps to keep the hose connected to the chiller as I use mine outside. When I used inside I used the same but also used a hoselock connector to connect to my kitchen tap.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.

Thanks Greg. So you just slide the pipe into the standard garden hosepipe and secure with jubilee clips?

Indeed. You then need to play around with the pressure/jubilee clips so you get a slow trickle from the chiller and hopefully not too much leaking.

Warning - turn the tap on slowly the first time as you may get some water spraying out from the in pipe.

You don't need the water to be coming though too quickly, it should be coming out hot.

On a side note, I found my garden hose too large a diameter to get a snug fit on the copper, even with a jubilee clip. Solution - an inch long piece of the rubber tubing from my wherry kit onto the copper, to act as a "step up" to the hose. Secured with a jubilee clip and the jobs a goodun.

I know what you mean, mine is a little loose but I can get a pretty good seal with 2 x jubilee clips but I may try stepping with some additional tubing as I do get a bit of leakage.
