could anybody please tell me wot my hydrometer should read when my bitter is ready to be transfered to barrel . and wot my magnum pear cider should read as well thanks am new to this beer and cider only ever done wine

    Hi Mark. It's a hard question to answer. The kit you used should tell you what the final gravity should be, but it will depend on conditions whether you actually get to that figure or not. Based in the idea that the primary fermentation should be finished before the beer is transfered, provided it is at fermentation temperature, between 18c and 23c, if you take a hydrometer reading and note the figure, then take another one 24 hours later, if the reading hasn't changed you can assume the fermentation has finished and you can barrel it. This holds good for sanything you brew.

    If you're not living on the edge..... you're taking up too much space!!

    Planning: - To get some more brews on now the weather's a bit cooler
    Fermenting: - Ginger Beer experiment
    Conditioning: - A normal bitter with Styrians
    Drinking: - All of it!!
