Coopers Canadian
Hi all
I normally brew wines and ciders but thought I'd give a beer a go so picked up a Coopers Canadian Blonde to make.
The instructions aren't exactly helpful that come with it and was wondering if instead of using the 1kg of Coopers Beer Enhancer (which I haven't purchased) I could do a honey/sugar mixture instead?
I assume that if I were just using sugar I'd use 1kg but how do you go about getting a honey/sugar mixture correct? Would it just be 600g honey/400g sugar or is it dependant on the type of honey?
As I said, I've never done a beer before and haven't used honey before in my brews so any advice would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris i have a batch of that in my fermenter now, i used the brew enhancer with mine, i cant help you with the honey/suger question as i am a beginner with beers also, i can only agree with you about the lack of info in the instructions.

Im unsure how much you would need so I would halve the sugar and add boiled honey 200g at a time and stir until you reach the desired gravity.
I will keep on looking to see if I can find a better answer.

Its 95% fermentable according to Palmers so in that case its extremely close to sugare, but looking at a brewing-wiki it states sugar is upto 100% fermentable and honey is 75%.
If you go by palmer then your 600/400g mix is fine.....if you go by the wiki then it wouldnt bee (see what I did there honey/bees! classic) enough and you would want probably an extra 200g ish.
You could always do the 600/400g and take a hydrometer reading and if you need to bump it up then add the extra 200g.
