having completed my first coopers homebrew using the microbrew kit i am going to be starting another brew pretty soon, now when i used the micro brew kit it had the pack of carbonation drops which i used and found do a good job, i have about half a pack left which will be used on my next batch but i will have to either buy another pack for the rest of the brew or would you recommend just using some regular household granulated sugar for the priming. having looked at pricing the pack of drops are about £5ish delivered off ebay and normal sugar is around £1ish from supermarket is the ease of use in the drops worth the extra money

    hi,

hope you did not to less drops in, as most of the dam things are made for 275 ml bottles. and i find that they have different sizes in the same pack. one was nearly 1/3 thicker then the rest of them.
my little one likes them as a bonbon

white sugar should be fine fore the priming sugar. somebody told me, that malt sugar makes smaller bubbles in the beer and the foam top is lasting longer. will try it next time.

Have you just answered your own question?.

I use them because I bottle straight from the maturing barrel, that way it saves sterilising another vessel.

It depends upon your method but they can be very convenient indeed.

Half a drop will do for ales, rest the biggest knife you have on the drop and tap the back of the knife with a rolling pin, it'll chop nicely in half.

Planning: Wheat beer fermented with Schneider Weisse yeast, a Stout, lots of hoppy pale ales
    Fermenting: Marynka pseudo-lager
    Maturing/Conditioning:
Drinking: Wheat beer, ESB, Vienna lager & shop bought stuff

I've used both Coopers Carb tablets and household sugar and couldn't tell the difference. The last one I did was sugar and I just put a cup or so of the beer in a saucepan, added 75g of sugar and boiled for 10 minutes. Started the syphon of the beer into the bottling bucket and poured the sugar solution in. Didn't bother waiting for it to cool becuase the volume of hot liquid was so low.

    It worked a treat.

Planning: Something with Styrians, Discovery Clone
    Fermenting:
    Condtioning:
    Drinking: Twibute Clone, PJ Clone
