Brew enhancer, Extract or Sugar?!
Hi there,
Am currently in NZ and have picked up 4 Coopers kits (they were 5quid each so couldn't say no!). I am returning home in a week and am very excited about starting one of them up!
As I understand it you can either use sugar (as the can says), some form of Brew Enhancer or Malt Extract.. or presumably a combination of the above? Firstly, is this a correct understanding? And secondly, which would be the best option/combination? Looking at the ingredients of the Coopers Brew Enhancer it contains Light Dry Malt and two sugars. Is this essentially a premixed Malt Extract and Sugar product?
Many thanks,
Will

Hi Will, yes the beer enhancer is malt extract and brewing sugars. It will definitely make a better beer so I would go for that option.
Brewing sugar will work too although I would definitely give household sugar a miss as you will end up with a thin tasting beer.
Fermenting:
Conditioning:Pale with Styrians
Drinking:Cascade Pale Ale, Summer Lightning

Hi Will,
I have just finished a coopers australian lager kit using 800 grammes of brewing sugar (made up to 18.5 litres) and 200 grammes to bulk prime. It has been in the pressure barrel for a few days now and each day it tastes better. It pours like john smiths but settles clear after a minute or two with a pure white head. I will most certainly try another coopers kit - may go for the stout next.
I have tried household granulated sugar in brews before but will always try brewing sugar or dry malt in future.
Good luck - £5 each was defo a bargain.
