BIG UNIT IPA
Was experimenting with the IPA recipe on the brewuk website so can't take too much credit...but I'm really happy with my additions. It's just cleared in the secondary bucket, and settled out around 1014, and is awaiting bottling this weekend! OG=1054 FG=1014 = 5.8% ABV
So far it's nice and sharp with a MASSIVE floral aromatic mose. Not quite brewdog but that's where i'm aiming!
3kg pale malt extract @ 60 mins
40g Cascade hops
250g Muscovado sugar @ 20 mins
20g Cascade hops
-aroma-
20g Amarillo hops @ 2 mins and 30mins steep.
-dry hop-
30g Amarillo hops (after 5 days)

It's Mike 'Stevo' Stephenson from Sky's rugby league coverage. He often call 'chunkier' players Big Units! Hence the name for a big assed aromatic IPA.

God damn it, it worked! I've made my own Brewdog Punk IPA!!!
It's still a bit young in the bottle; not properly cleared and lacking head but WOW! Really extreme aroma and massive flavour. Will definitely make another batch of this.
Now if only my raisin bitter works it'll have been a really good couple of months

Hi Blackhatchetboy, was reading your recipe with interest and have the ingredients but being a newbie to brewing I'm not sure how to follow your recipe!!!
What is it you mean by "@ 60 mins" etc
Sorry for what might seem a totally obvious question!

Hi Vet111,
I think what Blackhatchet means as his boil time is 60 minutes then the Pale Malt will go into the boiler at the start of the boil. The muscavado sugar would go in 20 minutes from the end. The Amarillo hops would go in 2 minutes from the end.
Hope this helps? AG is certainly the way forward. Produces amazing results i must admit..

Sorry, not been near my laptop for a while. Neil is bang on. My boil time was 60mins. As the water reached the boil I pitched in the malt and first hops. And the muscovado and rest of hops went in with 20 and 2 mins to go.
Tasted great by the way. The first beer I made that people were asking if they could have some more!

Blimey! I've learnt something...
Quick question... how much water did you use? What was the final amount in litres?
Sorry i couldn't see anything and man that looks a good recipe.

I used 6 liters (biggest pan I have) when boiling the brew up and then made it up to 22L. Came out about 5.9%, but be careful it's makes for easy drinking!

Bit like the Way to Amarillo... my word that packs a punch. I only had 2 pints last night but feel like i've been 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. I have a mouth like Ghandi's flip flop and a 21 gun salute going off too. Either i can no longer drink? Or the beer was stronger than the 5.3% abv it came out as? I prefer the latter
Cheers for that though i am seriously considering doing that.. but i've got people asking me to make brews for them now and others planned as well.. Love, love, love this hobby.
