beer kit fermenting times
only on my second brew and surfing the net for ideas for number 3. does nobody go by the recipe sheet that comes with a kit? Everyone seems to be saying leave it longer in the primary and longer in the keg/bottle
or is this novice talk?

I think it is rather like a recipe for cooking; the novice will follow word by word, rather than using experience to judge it.
If a kit says, for example, to leave it for one week to ferment before bottling but, due to external conditions, the fermentation has gone slower than the manufacturer has planned and it's still bubbling away, disregard for that stage of the printed recipe is the only sensible course.
Keep trying and you'll get comfortable with making your own calls rather than following it like a set text.

Just had a fun brew It was started on the 16th I have seen no sign of life in it but the sg has droped from 1035 to a tad under 1010 The VF seems air tight and no sign of a leak You can see signs of it having been working Is it pos that it worked fast for just a few hours and I missed it?

The figures never lie!!!!! Its hard to get a tight seal on the lids to be honest and because the gravity has dropped, this means that, yes, the lil' yeasties have been hard at work turning the sugary watery stuff into that amazing thing we call...... BEER!
