Tim JewellBeer comes out too fast from barrel?

1 year ago | Tim (Member)

I have made a few batches of ale now with the kit I received for Christmas and I have been really pleased with the results. One thing that is bugging me though is the amount of time it takes to draw a pint from the barrel. If I turn the tap to more than a reasonable trickle, I just get a glass full of mostly foam. This is true right down to the bottom of the barrel (so at least I have good pressure!).

To give you an idea, it takes something like 60 seconds to draw a pint. Is that normal? In a pub, draught beer seems to flow faster but under more control than I can achieve with my barrel and tap. Is there a way of making things easier?

Yeah it does that, I believe Dan had a trick here - http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/topic/dan-dans-kit-mod1-the-barrel - it involves a.....turkey baster!

On the plus side it means you have a nice tight set up and you know you beer is well protected by all that co2 in the keg!

Drinkin' - nowt, it's all gone

After reading that initial thread, I sourced a small baster from ebay, the Diameter was about 3 mm too big for the tap, so with a bit of electrical tape and a cheap jubilee clip I managed to get this fixed to the tap, and it works really well, total control of how you pour the pint, perfect head each time!

    cheers
