Beaverdale 30 Bottle - Chablis Blush
Hello,
Well, the wife loved the 6 bottle kit so am half way through the 30 bottle kit. It took 7 days to complete fermentation at approx 20-24C
Now have 3 days to degass then the finings. I know pics are easier to explain. Note the atomizer - videne of course
The better bottle could not quite manage 23 litres so an additional 1 gal needed. Will send pics after clearing.

Hi Nath,
I have so far tried Beaverdale Pinot and Beaverdale Chablis Blush. Both were worth the money. I have not tried a red yet. Today I purchased a Beaverdale Muscadet so will hopefully kick that off later this week.
The Carafe 21 was not so nice but I think this is not only the quality/quantity of the grape juice but you also need to add 4kg sugar.
Like most things in life you get what you pay for.
nb. Would suggest if you go the Beaverdale route, invest in a 6 bottle kit to start with.

What about water treatments? Sould you adjust for hard water or is it not so vital with wine?

Now that is a good question Nath. I have always used tap and it has turned out ok. To be honest I do not know the hardness of the water in my area (Central Cambs)but I am now going to find out. Will keep you posted.

I have checked with the water company (Cambridge Water) and in my area the water hardness is 20 grains per gallon so the water is classed as Very Hard.
Here is the table it is measured against in Grains per gallon. How this affects brews will need more research but it is an interesting subject.
0 - 1 Soft
1 - 3.5 Slightly Hard
3.5 - 7.0 Moderately hard
7.0 - 10.5 Hard
10.5 & over Very Hard

Its not so important for wine making as with beer making as you don't have to worry about mash Ph which is the main issues with brewing.
I assume it will have an effect on the taste though.
