Beards, Sandals, Soil & Twigs
My stereotypical image of an active CAMRA member is someone who has a beard, wears sandals, prefers soil in the bottom of his pint and twigs floating on top.
Apologies to any CAMRA member who doesn't fit this image, those that join just to get into beer festivals cheap.
Followed a link from a thread on Jims, made me chuckle but there are also some very good points regarging the brewing industry, thought peeps might like a read.

Bollocks, Kevin doesn't exist, he's been developed as an excuse to hammer CAMRA.

I agree on the beard front. Whenever I'm on leave I let the beard grow. I currently sporting 10 days growth due to the luxury of Paternity leave.

Makes interesting reading, although I'm surprised they didn't mention New Zealand hops in there. The fact is, people want new things all the time, and there are limits to the variety you can produce with Fuggles and Goldings. The point about pricing is telling. In Britain, we can't produce anything cost effectively because of the parasites (sorry, overheads) clinging to every business venture.
Really must trim my beard ..... or join Camra and save on the blades!

All you need is a 2CV and a 'Save The Whale' sticker and you will be the complete 70's teacher stereotype!

Im a CAMRA member and Im totally off the profile. Seriously it takes my 3 weeks to grow about 5mm....in patches.
I like CAMRA, without them all that time ago, who knows what may have happened. I dont agree with their current form and it really needs a fresh face to sort things out. It needs to be about all craft beers, not just the ones that 30+ years ago may have been lost.

CAMRA definitely needs to work on its image although from the photo's of our local Camra meetings the beard, belly and sandals images is pretty much spot on.
There is a new younger, cooler breed of ale drinkers now so hopefully these people will help change Camra's image over time. There are also a lot of women ale drinkers now too.

I don't have a beard nor am I a member of CAMRA. I'm a bit of a hunk if I'm honest.
One of the above is a lie. I get enough stick about the National Trust sticker on my car and my brother keeps referring me to the Real Ale Tw*ts story in Viz.
Yes; it's not a good image to have. What's to be done?

I've just received CAMRA membership for my 30th birthday, so not only am I now officially old but I've now got an excuse to grow a beard and wear sandals too! Ha ha, just kidding, I like to think I'm part of the new and gorgeous face of CAMRA, we're not all Arran jumper and corduroy wearing catweasels!
