Brew UK Forum | Beer Kits
another newbie question.
I recently bought a micro brewery kit the pressure barrel came with two caps (one with injector valve and one without). My question is which one do i put on first and do i need to add sugar to the barrel to prime it if i'm using c02 capsules?. Appologies if i sound a bit dumb but i thought an answer from someone with experiance would be better than a cockup.
thanks

You need to add priming sugar to carbonate the beer. The CO2 is used as a propellant to force the beer out of the barrel when you open the tap. You'd have a vacuum without it and the beer wouldn't come out. Not sure about the non-CO2 cap but someone will!

+1 there si,
Use the co2 cap as when yopu run out of natural co2 from the priming you can top up and wont need to change tops. Oh and.....Enjoy the beer!

Hi SlimJim.
Yes, use the CO2 cap from the time you put the beer in the barrel as prime as instructions. Another reason for using it from the start, apart from the above, is that beer is very susceptible to bacterial infection, and changing the cap could lead to bacteria entering the brew. It never makes sense to create opportunities for contamination
Planning: - To get some more brews on now the weather's a bit cooler
Fermenting: - Ginger Beer experiment
Conditioning: - A normal bitter with Styrians
Drinking: - All of it!!
