Amarillo Ale Plus?
Hi there,
I've recently made the Amarillo IPA off this website and fancy ramping up the aroma by dry hopping it. I've got some Cascade hops and was wondering what people thought. Should I just bang some in at the end, or add some in the boil earlier in place of some Amarillo? Is there anything else I need to contend with when changing recipes? I've downloaded the trial of Beersmith but frankly it was more confusing than helpful!

Beersmith takes a little getting into and quite a bit of background knowledge, but don't worry, you'll soon figure it. Check the various tutorials on their site.
Having said that, I often come across things I can't figure and need to research.
With regard to dry hopping... where is your beer at the moment, is it still in the primary fermenter? If it is, then give the dry hopping a bash when you rack it to the secondary. Boil a muslin bag for a few mins, add hops, tie and set in your secondary for a week or two. Remember to sanitize everything and anything that comes into contact with the precious beer!
I'm a little confused when you mention adding to the biol if you've already made the beer.

Hello, If you are looking to ramp up the aroma then I would either dry hop in the secondary fermenter or steep some after the boil has finished for around 30 mins. Either way use about 50g.
I think I would personally use the Amarillo for this so I would therefore use the cascade in the boil (replacing the Amarillo) and keep the Amarillo for the end as Amarillo has the most amazing aroma. The Cascade is slightly lower alpha so you will need to adjust for that and add a bit more. You'll probably want about 40g, sorry not to be more precise but I don't have Beersmith to hand to calculate it for my lazy arse.
No problem changing recipes, that is half the fun. Just make sure the overall IBU doesn't change too much or else you could end up with some quite bitter.
Fermenting: FFF Moondance
Conditioning: I can't remember (Porter)
Drinking:Turbo Cider, Ringwood 49Er Clone, Summer Lightning, Elderflower Champagne

Thanks for the replies, guys! Sorry if I wasn't clearer; I made the first batch in January and am still enjoying it. I'm making a second batch with extra aroma. Hmmm. Will persevere with Beersmith!!
