Adding sugar to secondary fermentation container

Hi - first time kit brewer here. When adding sugar to the secondary fermentation stage, does it matter if it is added to the barrel before or after the brew is transferred from the primary bucket? Thanks in advance!

I would add it to the barrel when the beer is in there. I would only add it to the bucket if I was batch priming for bottling.
