nath812A couple of beers and pubs you gota try!

Well Im back after 9 days of hot sunny burning weather in Cornwall. Man I could have stayed down there. Everything was great and as it was my birthday while I was down there a few mates popped 200+miles down to go on a crawl!

We started in Penzance and went to the turks head which is a free house and has at least 4-6 different ales on tap at any time. Its a proper old pub (ye olde pube) with ultra low celings and slopes about 4ft from front to back. I had a few pints of a nice IPA there but cant remember the name (good start).

After a few more proper pubs we came across a pub on the sea front (navy inn rings a bell) which sold Exmoor gold which is another nice IPA.

From there we went to Wetherspoons where I used up some of my vouchers with some amazing Brewdog Trashy Blonde, which is now my fave BD beer!

A short trip back from penzance to my fave pub in cornwall - Logan rock in Treen (CAMRA pub of the year 2008). Its a st austel pub with all the norm ales - tribute, hsd etc etc which are all great but then I found Proper Job, a 5.5% IPA - really well hopped, it tasted amazing, really zingy, really floral. On from that I had a bottle of Admrils Ale. It won beer or the world (yeah baby world) award 2008 and to be honest I can see why. Its made with all cornish gold malt, gives it a great ruby colour, mega hopped and has a melon aftertaste. My missus loved it I loved it and so did all my mates, even the lager drinking one! I ended up getting a few bottles of each and walking with a mate totally inebriated over the cliff edge path a mile and a half back home....... and im still alive!

Im gonna have to find some around here, seriously if you see proper job or admrils ale on offer (both from st. austell brewerry) then go get it.

PS - Greg - I tried to bring some back for you but my mouth wouldnt let me so I went to the tescos in Penzance on the way back and both ales were out, spose it shows how good it is!

Proper Job is one of the most amazing beers on the planet! I'm currently researching a clone and trying to go for it for the next brew.

Sounds like you had a blast Nath .... good on you!

Beer will get you through the times of no money better than money will get you through the times of no beer

Hi Tony, let us know the recipe once you've finalised it as I would like to try it too.

Looks like MO, Willamette, Cascade and Chinook.

We will have chinook in the next couple of weeks.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.

Sweet looks like a few st austell clones are on their way then! Apparently the head brewer is a very nice chap who has helped a few people out creating a look-e-like-e through the magic of email. Worth a try. Their bottles are all properly conditioned so it may be worth recovering the yeast.
