£2.05 / pint
Nipped into my local Wetherspoons tonight for a cheeky one while waiting for a takeaway and couldn't believe all guest ales where £2.05 / pint.
They had 5 different one's on too. Unfortunately I was driving so only had a pint of something from the Piddle brewery (which was very nice) but that is an amazing price round here. Most pubs are £3.20 + although there a few which are around £2.90.
£2.05 - Bargain. Will be heading down there minus the car very soon.
Planning:Maybe a lager.

wetherspoons are great on prices... although my local has had all ales for £1.95 for quite a while. Haven't been in for a couple of weeks, looks like the budget has hit the prices.
Ruddles was £1.65 a pint. At that price (and with an ever-changing selection of good beer), it's difficult to go anywhere else. They also let the kids in there, which is a real bonus for me

I know its great. I've been in there before but just didn't notice how cheap the prices were.
I do keep forgetting to take my Camra vouchers with me as its usually a spur of the moment thing and I don't tend to carry them round with me.
They also do a burger + chips + pint for under a fiver and breakfast for £2.70.

People moan about Wetherspoons saying the only reason they can sell ale so cheaply is they buy beer that is close to the end of it's shelf life. Which to me is rubbish because kept in the right conditions beer can last for a while and still beer drinkable.
Say what you want about them you can't beat a decent Wetherspoons pub and their beer festivals are legendary. I don't know many festivals which can get brewers from Sth Africa, Australia, Japan and USA to come over and brew beers especially for the festivals.
£2.05 a pint show me to the bar please landlord...

My biggest gripe with Wetherspoons, well the one in Belfast anyway, is that it seems to attract the sort of people who's idea of a good night out is cheap booze and a fight.
I've walked past the place sober and have felt genuinely scared.
Though I've been to the one in central Liverpool and it was totally different. Nice friendly atmosphere. But then again I was very drunk.

The last Wetherspoons I had a pint at was in Birmingham Airport. If memory serves I'm sure the Abbot was closer to £3 but the food was cheap & pretty good too.

i used to bad mouth them all the time if Im honest and you still wont catch me in any pub like that on a fri/sat night. But now I understand ya see.... They have at least 4-6 different ales in our local wetherspoons and they are from everywhere. Any big chain pub which stocks real ales at a great price is good in my book.
Getting lager drinkers to drink ales instead is always gonna be a winner. Beer and education = beerucation.

I was in one in the centre of Newcastle Sunday lunchtime a couple of years ago. Some dodgy geezer came up to us, ate some of my mate's discarded roast chicken and then offered to sell us drugs. We politely declined, explaining that we were catching a flight in a couple of hours.

Yeah our wetherspoons is certainly not my pub of choice, especially on a weekend evening but ideal for a swift midweek beer (or session).
There is nothing wrong with their beer either but I can see why the prices would annoy most freeholders but that's the beauty of buying in bulk direct from the breweries, they cut out the middle men and make the saving that way.

Nearly every pub near to me has stopped selling real ale but manages to pack the bar with pumps selling 10 different lagers. Their argument being that no one drinks it and it goes off. If that were true, how does wetherspoons manage it? The wetherspoons here is clean with a friendly staff. Last weekend a group of loud kids came in making a fuss, they were allowed to finish their beer but then told to get out. Its good for my kids who get a good meal with a colouring-in pack which keeps them busy while I enjoy my pint.
Like Nath I used to rubbish them and wouldn't be seen dead in one... but the range of beer is excellent and prices unbeatable. There is always at least one new beer to try and a couple of old faithfuls to fall back on if necessary.
Gets my thumbs up!

A lot of younger peeps wouldnt be seen dead with a lager according to my 19 year old niece whos a southampton-ite and who tells me whats "bangin'" and whats "crackin'" and calls me "blood". She has worked it 3 pubs and now works in a hotel around totton, and the new forest and thas seen a massive take up in the amount of real ale drunk by young people.

I'm off work for a week now
Staying a few days down by the lakes in Fermanagh, on the outskirts of Enniskillen. And I know for a fact Enniskillen has a Wetherspoons.
So the question is, how do I persuade the missus to drop in so I can check their collection of Real Ale? Maybe if I offer to buy dinner too she might be more keen on the idea. Dinner for the missus, colouring pencils for the daughter and hopefully some nice ale for me. This thing practically planned itself

goin back to gregs original post, the real ale pubs round my way charge between £2.40 and £2.70 a pint which is good value but my local free house (jolly crispin)does an excellent house ale (crispin ale-brewed for them by titanic brewery) for £2.20

I have to say....I don't like weatherspoons.
They always seem characterless and charmless.
