Yes indeed .... the words 'yeast washing' are floating around in my head and I wish they'd go away. The IPA will be stronger than the stout, so no worries there and I know I've been spoiled by the rapid fermentation and clearing of SO4 so was expecting a longer process.

Hmmm.. what to do? I'm now tempted to stick to S04.. why take the risk eh?

On the other hand, progress is usually dependent on some element of risk!
Arrrggghh!!!

I think it should be okay so long as you are stepping up in ABV. Also you might find that strain takes a while to clear in a Pale beer.

Says on the wyeast site that it can be used for Imperial IPA's so I reckon it will be cool. Saying that does spent yeast impart any different flavors due to prior fermentation?

Hi all
My Inside Stout will be racked into secondary this weekend and I was thinking of making an IPA and using about half a pint of the yeast cake from the stout. I used Wyeast Irish Ale (1084) and was wondering how this would work with an IPA.

Any thoughts?
