Nice one Barry... have you posted the recipe? Great name too!

This was a real good one, still have a few bottles left although its so popular that I've had to give quite a few away! Got a lovely roasted edge to it - almost coffee-like, more like makenson than guinness. I think if I ever brewed this one again I may add a few oats.

Tony,

Been a while in checking this one with you, but how did it turn out? I only ask because I'm in the middle of (drinking) my second batch of the Ode to Arthur recipe I've been brewing. This one's excellent. I've been drinking it out of a Guinness glass and this stuff's sticking to the sides like all-bran (ahem - sorry).

Sweet.

:o) well spotted
I'm not big on celebrities - or their antics, but was thinking that we should all come up with a brew and name it after a celeb. Now .. I should have thought about this before I started writing as I can't think of anything clever.
Errrrmm...
Elton John: Don't turn your back on this beer or you'll be walking funny for a week
Hmmm I'm going to have to go away and think about this ... I just don't know enough celebrities!

:o)
Hey Bazza
Yes .... needs at least another week in the bottle, but have tried a couple :o)

Not too bad, not too bad at all thanks. I think I'd bung in another kilo if pale if I did it again - or maybe some oats, just to give it a little more body, but I have to admit, I'm rather pleased with it. Good head on it too.

Just transferred this to secondary. What an effin nightmare. Halfway through I notice that the little bottler tap seal is leaking. I had to complete the racking, strip to the waist, videne up my arm (and nails), stand around for a minute looking conspicuous and then sink my arm into the brew to try and tighten up the tap. Managed about a 5mm extra turn but it made no difference.

I was planning on racking the ginger wine anyway, so I had to leave the stout, rack the wine, clean and sterilise everything, finish that and then transfer the stout into the vacated fv.

On the positive, the stout tasted pretty good if a little sweet!

We live and learn!

:o) That really was a rotflol
My tea is starting to taste like an also-ran .. with a bitter edge than can be matched against £1400 that my season ticket costs. Although, having said that... we are top for the moment :o)

Conditioning time ..? Good question! No idea, I've never made one before but going by the ABV, this is one of the weakest beers I've ever made... so I think a couple of weeks should do it. I'll be sampling frequently so will report back.

I'd say.. go crack open one of those bottles right now and let us know what it's like! :o)

Excellent pics, Tony!

One question - does tea taste better in an Arsenal mug? I usually have mine in a Liverpool mug, but my tea is tasting less like 4th place with every weekend <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_sad.gif" title=":(" class="bb_smilies" />

How long's conditioning time for your stout? I bottled some over 2 weeks ago and don't know what divine force has prevented me having a taste. The roasted barley smells amazing! Almost like, dare I say, ...Guinness?

ok .. pics as promised.

One change - I upped the EKG at 30 min to 30g. I just love my hops.

Everything went to plan .. weird, that's never happened before. There was one slight worry, I couldn't see any cold break...? I've put it down to the colour of the brew .. anyone else have experience of stouts and looking for the cold break?

Strike heat

The other sort of brew I couldn't do without

Brewday!!

Was wondering how basic I could keep the ingredients, so giving this a bash...

INSIDE STOUT
Batch Size: 24.00 L
4.00 kg Pale Malt
1.00 kg Barley, Flaked
0.50 kg Roasted Barley
30.00 gm Northern Brewer [10.50 %] (60 min)
20.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [4.60 %] (30 min)
20.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [4.60 %] (0 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep)
1.27 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 15.0 min)
Wyeast Labs #1084

Estimated Original Gravity: 1.047 SG
Estimated Final Gravity: 1.012 SG
Estimated Color: 45.7 EBC
Bitterness: 38.5 IBU
Estimated Alcohol by Volume: 4.54 %

Dough-in was smack on 5.30am.

I've done two test boils in my burco since I repaired the element plate, increased the size of the holes in my strainer (from something imperial that my dad had - to 2.5mm), and all seems well. Fingers Crossed. If it doesn't hold up I'll have to change the name to 'chuck it stout'.

Pics later
