So it turns out that I had overlooked the most obvious solution (apart from binning them).

WD40. Of course!

Now lots of lovely label free bottles, and a good excuse to keep buying more

Those blokes at brewdog have invented the mother of all brew-glues. I tried hot water, white spirit, ethanol and acetone. In the end I did exactly what Greg said... :o)

I think gregs hit the nail on the head. Twice

Just be handy to be able to reuse something that's a reasonable price that tastes good. But that's the southerner in me...

Don't even get me started on Barry Scott.

Stick them in the recyling. Its not worth it. After a while you will end up with more bottles than you need so don't sweat it.

You mean even Cillit Bang caa't remove it...? That is harsh stuff used by them Brewdog people if Barry Scott can't remove it..

Have you tried soaking it for 24hrs or over? Not sure whether that'd work but it's a suggestion.

Don't get me wrong, I can get the label off no problem. It's the flipping glue residue that's a killer. I could actually do with some to re-felt my shed. I've tried hot water, soaking in star San, then cillit bang, wrapping in foil and putting in the oven but nothing will soften it. The thought of having to get a stanley blade on 30 bottles is enough to drive me to drink. Actually, that's a good thing right?

The labels aren't paper based so you don't have to soak them. Just pick a corner and peel the whole thing - usually come off in one.

You mean you didn't like the Meantime? I thought it was lovely.

I did buy some more ale today from my local real ale beer shop. Norfolk Square Brewery - Winklepicker god that stuff is good. Was almost tempted with their B52 as well.

Not sure what is going on with my Sainsbury's but they seem to be out of stock constantly with Brewdog beers...

Yes, that's a good point .. although all those IBUs packed into such a little space can't help but put a lump in your trousers.

Fortunately the cereal isle is opposite the beer so I try to get as many in the trolly as possible while she's there. I work on the principle that if I get it to the check-out, I'm 90% of the way home.

I tried some of that meantime wheat .... not for me I'm afraid. Just tasted of cloves.

I don't know how this will work for you fellows, but for the last few weeks I've offered to do the weekly shop. It's a pain having to fight your way through Tesco with its hordes of people with a murderous look in their eye if you so much as glance at the one remaining tin of discount beans they've been trampling over the carcasses of the 'weaker' members of the Saturday shopping herd for. That horrible feeling of hoplessness that shakes your very bowels when you first look at the 'list' that stretches right back out of the store and half way down the dual carriageway. That list with its annoyingly neat handwriting. Why is it so neat?

But out of all this horror is the little 5 minute oasis of 'me time' when you wheel your -what used to resemble a shopping trolley but is now just grotesquely shaped installation of metal and wheels groaning and buckling under the weight of 7 years' worth of mostly unnecessary nonsense apart from baby formula and brown sauce (HP not Tesco brand - my one contribution to the list)- up to the little section simply entitled 'Specialty ales'. Ahhhhh!

Then you come home like a hero just make sure you disguise the telltale 'clink' of brown bottles with a comment along the lines of 'They were doing buy one get one half price on balsamic mustard French table dressing vinegarette'. Your missus thinks you're being adventurous and thrifty, and so attractively European.

Long story short -> you offer to do the weekly shop, you deserve something from the 'sweetie counter'. Works for me.
