This is much less sweet than golden champion which I agree is a bit sickly after a few pints. I might have to drop a bottle off with Greg for
an independant view. I need to pick up some supplies for a Christmas brew sometime anyway.

I am planning both a fresh elderflower and peach blossom brew for the spring/summer, but a long winter stretches ahead.......something to look
forward to.

I may have to nab this one matey! A few of my friends really like the flavour of Golden Champion. Its an easy beer to drink in the sun shine, I find it a lil bit too sickly if you have too many, but a great refresher. Ive yeat to add anything but malt n hops to my beer but Im gonna have to step up to it!

This is the second time I have brewed this, slightly revised this time with more aroma hops. The aim of this was to do something similar to Badger Golden Champion, flavoured with elderflower. A side by side comparison showed they were identical in colour, last time this recipe had better head retention and was more hopy and less sweet than Golden Champion. The elderflower flavour is subtle but compliments the hops This one is getting bottled today and tastes great from the sample I took yesterday to measure the FG. I plan to do a peach blossom version in the spring as I discovered that a tree in the garden I thought was a willow grew one big peach this year much to my surprise.

I'm with you on that one. I didn't think much of it when I first tried it a few years ago but they were on special in the shop last week so I bought one. It was lovely and I had wished I had bought more. So I did yesterday. I can't see they have changed it as its the flagship brew although the yeast may have changed and obviously hops/grain change from season to season so I guess it probably does change from year to year.

Wish I still had some now, in fact I might have to go down the shop, it must be beer o'clock by now....

Picked up a couple of Badger Tangle Foot tonight and you know what, that is a beer that I have mistakenly written off after sampling a couple of years ago but now I really like it.

Nice mellow light crystal flavour and not too bitter. Deceptively strong at 5% but doesn't taste strong. A really nice brew, highly recommended.

Hi Gazz, that sounds very interesting, I'll have to look out for one of those in the supermarket later.

As Dan says fresh ginger is definitely the way forward and use with caution as it could be quite over bearing. I think its probably a spicy hop (bramling X, First Gold or a halletuer maybe) and a small amount of crystal malt

Yeah! add ginger, no earlier than 15min from the boil or else it will add a lot of bitterness and weird flavors to the beer, best after the boil, or as greg says during fermentation (peeled and crushed through a garlic press, I would boil in a little water and let cool before adding) depending on how big your brew length is and how many IBU's you are getting from your Hops I would aim at 0.5g-0.75g of ginger to 1L of wort.

Hi Gazz, I share you views on that one. Its a really nice beer but only in small quantities.

I guess the main thing to clone is the ginger. Probably best to add to the boil (at the end) or add to a secondary fermentation.

I bought a mix six pack which contained a Blandford Fly, I must say that it was gorgeous, so much so I went to Sainsbury's and bought Six!!
I wonder how I could clone this!!

Nice one, are you heading in for the Xmas Brew then?

I'm drinking last years cider at the mo, wow what a difference a couple of months makes. This tastes amazing, so much better than a couple of months ago when I bottled it.

The golden rule, always give a brew a bit of time before passing judgement. Unless of course it tastes rank in which case you have probably have an infection and the sink is the best place for it.

Thumper is a ringwood beer. They are all nice, the Ringwood best is my favourite, especially on tap. Served in most pubs round here as the brewery is pretty close by. 48er is also a nice beer from them. All have a nice crystal malt flavour.

I bought 4 yesterday from Sainsbury's and only have one left.. the Bombardier Satanic Mills which I love. I had a pint in whitherspoons yesterday... 'Thumper' have you heard of it? Rather wonderful to be honest! Also saw while I was in there that their Beer Festival starts on Wednesday and it looks like they have a lot of new beers coming in.

I know what you mean. The badger beers are better down the pub as they are served very flat and are all the better for it.

Check St Austells Tribute if you haven't before. That's on special at Waitrose and its one of my favourites. There is a huge range down there, all at 25% off which makes it £1.2 odd per bottle, which is not bad at all.

I've got an abbott and a skinners left (which may have to be consumed tonight!)

Hmmm ... now there's a reason to visit Waitrose this morning! Not a big fan of Badger and for exactly the reason you mention... but I like to think I have an open mind ... :o) (and an open mouth!)

Waitrose have 25% off loads of ales at the moment so I couldn't resist temptation and bought a selection for Saturday nights consumption.

Just opened a Badger Blandford Fly and was quite surprised by the contents. Brewed with Ginger and spice, unusual are really quite pleasant. Starts off with a ginger beer kind of taste but isn't overpowering. Really quite nice.

Like quite a few Badger beers (Golden Glory etc) is strong flavoured so sickly after more than one but I would recommend trying this one as its really different and tasty.
