Hi guys,

Been away from the brewing scene for a while but feel this a better time than any to get back in

Was in tesco this evening for my weekly beer shop ( sod the food that can wait) and saw these new low alcohol ales

Which intrigued me to whether you can still have the big ale flavour and low alcohol these are 2.8% ( can any one answer why there all only 2.8 or is this just coincidence?)

Haven't tried them yet just stuck em in fridge for a wee chillin and will update later on taste

I've been working my way through the different Badger Ales (Dorset) this week, mainly because they seem to be on special at more than one supermarket.

Also they have gone through a recent rebrand, so the bottles are very noticeable on the shelf, so in the basket they go. (I'm obviously weak to advertising this week).

Golden Glory is my favorite, a really fruity, peachy brew. Easy to get a few down. A friend of mine wished me condolences for drinking a beer that tastes like a soft fruit, but each to their own.. heh

Golden Champion was more floral than fruit, and also tasty and drinkable.

The other 3 I tried were Tangle Foot, Fursty Ferret and First Gold. These all were varying shades of amber, and had some sweetness in them (Is this Crystal Malt at work?) All of these also had slightly spiced and orange flavour, with the Tangle Foot maybe being a bit 'crisper' on the palate.

Badger seem to be very adept at making Ales that are easy to drink.

I'm sure most if not all of you know these Ales, as they are a big name brand, but I though I would share my views regardless, as it's been a while since I drank anything from this brewery.

I was in Tesco in Newmarket today looking, in vain, for some Proper Job. It's a small Tesco but they had Hopping Hare and 2 or 3 other Badger beers on the shelves, so if a small store has it, it must be a general stock item. Is Spring here?

I've been drinking Brooklyn Brown Ale at a bar near me, and I love the stuff!

It's got that toffee style aroma, with taste of coffee and chocolate, without being heavy and cloying. Hop aroma is very low. It's lightly carbonated and slightly 'lip smacking' which makes it very drinkable and refreshing despite being a dark ale.

It's not cheap however, I seem to recall paying over £4, but I know the bar goes to great lengths to source it this far down the UK, so thats fine by me. It's also 5.6%, so you don't want too many of em. (Or maybe you do..)

When I get round to brewing a Brown Beer, if I get anything close to this, I'll be overjoyed.

Whats been everyone's favorite beers of 2011 either shop/pub bought or made yourself?

Best beers I had for first time:

Brewdog - My name is Ingrid
Fantastic beer bit like their hardcore ipa but not as heavy going. Designed by Swedish beer bloggers. Made with Swedish cloud berries. Good video of it being made

Black Isle - Goldeneye pale ale
Have loved their Red Kite for ages and one of the beers that got me into good beer but only recently came across their Goldeneye. Very drinkable.

Craig Allan - Agent Provactuer
Came across this in France from the awesome beer shop/cafe brewberry.fr. Made by a Scottish guy that's set up in France. Have never seen it here which is a shame.

Stone - Ruination
Had this in the brewdog bar in Glasgow. Probably the hoppiest beer I've had - certainly wouldn't be to everyone's taste but I loved it.

Speybrew - Mendocino Pale Ale
My Amarillo IPA - had to get a mention maybe not as good as the ones above but certainly better than a lot of shop/pub bought beers. Absolutely love cracking one open and pouring it out. "I made this" <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" />

Staples that were never far away from my beer shelf this year:

Goose Island - Honkers Ale, Brooklyn - Lager, Brewdog - 5am Saint, Punk and the odd Riptide, Flying Dog, The odd kernel that I could find, Black Isle - Red Kite and some of their others, Estrella - Damm.

I stopped off at the De Beauvoir Deli on Southgate Rd, N1 for a sandwich and a mocha yesterday (I know that sounds really poncey), and whilst waiting for my coffee I noticed I few bottles of beer on the self that I hadn't seen before.

The beers had a really basic brown label almost looking like they were home brewed and the bottle cap had a dent on the top like it had been put on by a hand capper rather than a commercial machine. The labels just had I.P.A printed on it with the hop type underneath, on offer were Nelson Sauvin, Chinook and Colombus from what I can remember. Noticing the barista was sprinkling the powdered chocolate on my coffee I grabbed a Nelson Sauvin.

When I got home I had one of my own brews whilst the Kernel brew chilled down, then popped the cap. It smelled great and the hop flavours really came through, very grapefruity, absolutely superb!!

What I really like, as a novice home brewer, in this single hop pale ale, is I can understand what this hop is all about without having other flavours get in the way just like WT Amarillo.

I plan to pick up a few more of these beers.. I also think the because they were bottle conditioned the taste really comes through. Supermarket bottled ales hardly ever inspire.

I'll try to post the link to the brewery below, I'm a bit of a cretin when it comes to this sort of stuff, so if I fail you can google Kernel Brewery, they are based in Bermondsey, London.

FYI, the tuna with lemon mayonaise and rocket sandwich was delightful, the mocha was average, nice biscotti! <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />

I went to the Wyndham the other night as my friend was working behind the bar. As soon as I walked in he started pulling me a pint of this stuff, saying, 'I'm not even going to ask what you want, you'rehaving one of these.' I'd never come across it before but really enjoyed it, bit stronger than Summer Lightning, bit darker as I recall, and very tasty. Proper Winter beer! I also sampled another Hopback beer I hadn't tried before while there, can't remember the name but it sounded Greek. Was a weak beer as well, under 3% I think.

Wine does it so why not beer.

Wifee did spagbol and garlic bread tonight. I will recommend Ringwood 49'er to go with it, the garlic seems to really bring out the flavour of the beer.

Pedigree, I find goes well with steak & chips, also funny enough I tried it with a lump of cheddar, as I saw or was told it was good, but OMG, a totally different taste of bitter, kinda mellowed it, and made it somehow 'smoother' which did work very well - sod the red wine and cheese now <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_razz.gif" title=":P" class="bb_smilies" />

Sawbridgeworth IPA is very nice by it's self, but went with sticky chicken and salad kebab so well I forgot how much I'd drunk......

Of course these are my ideas, I'm sure some will think I'm mad, so what do others think, or suggest to try beer / food pairings with commercial beers.

Homebrew goes well with everything lol <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_cool.gif" title="8)" class="bb_smilies" />

Stopping at a Hungry Horse, my friend declared, "Ooh! A special from Greene King!" He isn't the world's greatest beer buff. I tried a little and here's my go at a review.

Once again, Greene King have produced a dodgy pump label to go with this attempt at beer. Ghastly Ghoul, served as a keg, is dark. Looks like it might be a Mild, but with an ABV of 4.2% it seems a bit high. Initial tasting gave the impression someone had given me a glass of black water, lightly (VERY lightly) flavoured with something burnt. Probably toast. The aroma..... sorry..... rephrase that. There is no aroma and this feature carries right through the beer, with no taste apart from the burnt toast and no aftertaste at all. All in all, a rather silly way to spend a lot of money. There's more flavour in the Lemonade that comes out of the multi-function hair-rinse tap behind the bar.

On holiday and feel devastated the only 'bitter' was tetley. Staying at a premier inn had the mis-fortune of thinking this beer would be nice <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_surprised.gif" title=":o" class="bb_smilies" />

Last time I had it was 14+ years ago, tastes changed.
Smelt like a sweaty sock and tasted bland......even my unconditioned kit home brew has better depth of bitter and hoppyness.

do they put some sort of chemical in it to keep that creamy head all the way down the glass??

Going to stick to wine this holiday

Been drinking a lot of this lately (mostly because we had a lot of it that was past it's BBE date) used to quite like it, nice rich, dark, tasty pint. But the odd bottle tastes like wet dog, is it just because it's a month out of date? I can't believe that's the case.
I also noticed that the stuff that's in date is a lower ABV - 4.7 rather than 5.2 (so the dark one is the same ABV as the Bombardier Burning Gold - that never goes out of date - sells like hot cakes!). Don't know what the weaker stuff tastes like yet. Has anyone else noticed this gear change?

When I popped open the bottle I immediately thought Nelson Sauvin was in this beer but apparently its Galaxy.

I dont really like it, its a nice colour and it leaves a tropically aftertaste (for a long long time) in your mouth, but the beer didnt really taste of much when you are taking a glug, just the overpowering finish of the hops.

Not one Id buy again.

Whilst visiting the Mother Land, I popped into the Cardiff branch of Zero Degrees. Had a lovely pizza but didn't rate the beer very much. Tried the Pale Ale which was very bitter and no real hop flavour. So tried the Black Lager which would appear to be a bit of a gimmick. It was just a really fizzy porter.

They also had a Pilsner, a Mango beer and a stout. However, as I was driving (only had two halves) I didn't sample those.

All-in-all a bit of a disappointed and the brewery seemed to be just a backdrop with not much, i.e. nothing, going on.

They were all very very nice. They even do a proper lager with sediment in! I'll find the bottles and stick the names up here.

Spent a great weekend in the new forest went to our usual camping spot.

First trip was to Pages Of Lyndhurst after reading they did mead .Went along got a couple of beers many to choose from and picked up a £6 bottle of mead .The chap in shop asked if i wanted to try it before i got it so had a taste was ok but he had 2 more up hes sleeve.

With the 3rd containing real honey and not a flavouring like the first one I ended up with £9.99 bottle .But boy was he right when he said it was the daddy of the meads he had.

I am going to have a go at making a mead now.

Next day was a trip to the ringwood brewery would of loved to have done the tour but will save that for another day.

Got some beers there got the wychwood kinggoblin which i havnt seen anywhere near me.
They have a great little gift shop and next time will be picking up some of their beer to take away in pints.

Really reasonsable prices on take away beer in the plastic containers and ther was a steady stream of people getting there refilled <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

is, without doubt, one of my favourite bottled beers. Cask is very good too, and until my local changed hands a few years ago, was my beer of choice.

Just wondering why the bottled version is 6.3% compared to 4.7% at the pump ?

Obviously, it's deliberate, and I can see why a cask ale of 6.3% wouldn't be commonplace in a pub, but whilst they share a name, there's a BIG difference between the two versions, taste-wise.

I finally got my first weekend away for a year after quitting my job. Spent a day in Salisbury and a day in the New Forest..

Had a few pints at the Wyndham Arms in Salisbury.. Pints of GFB and Crop Circle. Loved it there. Then in the New Forest had the pleasure of Ringwood Best Bitter from the cask. Lovely!

Sitting with a few glasses of wine now trying to adjust back to normal life after 2 child free days..

Plus I'm pondering the question of.. What to brew next?

Unfortunately I'd had quite a few beers and no idea of the brewery, there is reference to a couple of beers on the net called Wanderer - one of them from the US.

Couldn't drink it - well couldn't drink it all. This has to have an IBU in 4 figures. Could taste it all night.

Never thought I'd find a beer that had too many hops!

Their Punk IPA was on sale in Sainsbury's at the weekend for 99p per bottle. No wonder the shelf was empty the day before, but after they re-stocked on Sat and after seeing some of the reviews here, got myself 6 to take to a BBQ (plus 2 x 5am Saint's to try at normal price) and wasn't disappointed.

The host and I enjoyed sinking these and the "normal" stuff just didn't compare afterwards.

Finally sampled my first bottle of St. Austel's Tribute.

My local specialty beer shop had one bottle left. Apparently they'd had some Proper Job in the week before but had sold out. Damn; the wait goes on.

Tribute sounds like a bit of a favourite of this site, so I was very excited when I popped the cap. Did it taste good? Yes. Did it taste £2.69 per bottle good? Debatable.

The guy in the shop recommended Hook Norton Haymaker to me. If anything, I liked it slightly more than the Tribute.

I could turn this into a proper review, reflecting on the delicate balance between hoppiness, bitterness and the delicate malt flavours, but it was over a week ago, and I've imbibed all manner of p1$$ since then.

On reflection I should have bought the Jaipur. Wild Swan was a lot paler than I was expecting and tasted like a european lager, very little body and quite disappointing.

Hi Guys,
Seem to be a great fan of Leffe Belgian abbey beer right now. I can't find anything to beat it. The after taste is simply sublime. Does anyone know any good kits or recipes (bearing in mind I'm a beginner) similar to this. I just have to try to brew my own it's too good! <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_razz.gif" title=":P" class="bb_smilies" />

Well had a errand to run and attepted to go to my local ale shop which despite it being there for past two years i cant get there due to time and the lack of parking.

So the mrs spotted a more local wine shop that they had some beers in the window so took a trip there and what a little gem of a shop tons of wines (obviously lol) whiskeys and cigars .

From the outside it looks rather run down but inside it is a real nice shop.

On offer at Sainsbury's (other supermarkets are available).

Do people actually drink this stuff or just admire the label? I found it undrinkable. The hops flavour is way too much. It's like sucking a soggy hop!

I know their beers are extreme but this is too much.

Luckily bought some Sierra Nevada which was also on offer. Much better. Strong hops flavour but in perfect balance with the malt.

It was my wife's birthday today so finally got out to have a meal together and seeing as she doesn't drink this turned into an open invitation to drink some beer.

I tried 3 really good beers tonight.

Pint 1: Thwaites Very Nutty Black Export Strength 3.9% Very dark in colour as the name would suggest and very smooth as well. No bitter after taste and to be honest really nice for a mild. 4/5

1/2 pint because i was stuffed from the meal Blue Moon an American craft brew which i've never ever seen before but apparently is widely available in Sainsbury's. One word WOW....! A wheat bear with corriander and orange added it taste absolutely lovely.. So much so i will be walking to my local Sainsbury's and buying a couple of bottles. This comes in at 5.6% abv... 5/5.

Pint 2:- Now i wish i could remember the name of the brewery... however, i can't. I can remember the beer name and it was Nightmare. A nice dark ale which hit the spot from the off. Nice coffee note to it.. not sure what other flavours i could get. 5% Abv 3.5/5

So if anyone has never tried Blue Moon before then i'd highly recommend this one without at doubt.

No i am not talking about the 80's tune sung by the German star Nena..

Went to my local pubs annual beer festival last night and noticed that there was a brewery i'd never heard of before.

Blue Monkey - 99 Red Baboons[b]. This comes in at 4.2% and is absolutely gorgeous! It has an unusal combination of fruity hoppiness with a dark malty side. Now i couldn't decide whether it was a Porter or a Mild? and the write up in the tasting notes said exactly that too. Trying to make out the hops i am sure Fuggles or Challenger were used but wasn't sure.

One thing is it's only available to pubs at the moment they don't sell bottled versions of their beer. So have a word with your landlord/lady and see whether they can get a barrel in because you wont be disappointed **** rating.

I finally got around to ordering beers from them Brewdog chaps the other day 2 Trashy Blonde, 1 Zeitgist, 1 5am Saint and 1 Hardcore IPA.

Made with Marris Otter, Caramalt and Crystal a nice toffee brown in colour. The hops used are Simcoe, Centennial and Columbus then it's dry hopped with the same 3 hops giving a whopping 150ibu's and comes in at 9.2% abv <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_eek.gif" title="8O" class="bb_smilies" />

I am not usually partial to strong beers of this magnitude i find it far better to go down to my local TESCO and drink diesel as that is what most of this beer type usually taste like.

However, the aroma coming of this once poured was superb! Not sure which hop i could smell or taste the most as i have never used either before. What happened next can only be described as a hop explosion in my mouth. Unbelievable! 150IBU's of bitterness felt like my mouth had all the moisture sucked out. Yet strangely i really liked it and went back for more and it became more bitter the longer i left it too.

The taste is not too over bearing either initially sweet but then a citriousy grapefruit flavour kicked in. It really didn't feel like 9.2% either it went down rather too well.

This didn't disappoint at all and the only thing i can moan about is i wish i'd ordered 2 more. For £2.59 a bottle it's not bad at all my rating has to be **** 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Go on order some today peoples...! <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" /> Now for the Trashy Blonde mmmmm!

Quite lovely.

Anyone remember this or know what happened to it?

It used to appear in the better 'Ind Coope' pubs in the London area and in freehouses up until the early 90's. I would go out of my way to get some. Maybe nostalgia but I recall it was lovely, around 5% (or more now that I recall its effect), not a million miles from White Shield but on handpump.

I have seen & had Marston's Burton and assumed they'd taken over but it is not the same (in fact I didn't like it at all).

If there's a recipe for it out there, it would definitely send me on the road to AG brewing.

Sainsbury's have Fuller's Jack Frost in .... brewed with blackberries.

There's a definate 'fruity' edge to the beer, absolutely amazing colour and rather delicious. Probably wouldn't be able to drink more than one but it really is a winner and worth trying .. there's just so many tastes in there.

Hi all, quick note from the us of a. Here on business but visitted local liquor store in Washington. Tried dogfish head ipa and sierra torpedo ipa. Anyone else tried these? A tasty revelation compared to when I lived here in early nineties. If you get a chance well worth trying. Has anyone tried brewing these or have a recipe?

I'm just curious to know if anyone else has had the prototype Punk X and compared to original Punk.
Supposedly the same hops, but added in different proportions and at different times.

Personally, I LOVE Punk IPA. Clean, fresh, hoppy pale ale with a touch of pine and a slight 'louche' with chilling. Punk X (which is a contender to replace Punk) has much more peachy aroma and far less bitterness (~30 fewer IBUs if I remember). Much more consumer/mass market friendly. It was translucent when chilled; not something that bothers me, but perhaps not a general hit.

I shall reserve judgment until having tried them both together again, but initial feelings say that the original is best.

Picked up a selection of beers from my local garden centre. Cotleigh Buzzard, Hog Back Brewery Gardeners Tipple and a Felifoel Double Dragon.

Started good with the Double Dragon but after half a pint got a bit sickly. Gardeners Tipple was not for me in any shape or form and in a drunken pour I dumped the sediment into the Buzzard. Buzzard had a nice stout like hint to it but it was either the yeast or another flavour in there that made it taste a bit yuk. Heavy on chocolate malt.

Shame.

Hey all,

Just had a trip yesterday to Norfolk to visit the St Peters Brewery. Was welcomed by the most amazing smell as they had a mash on and picked up a nice box of 12 beers (assorted) from the shop. Also went for some food at St Peters Hall (next door) and pint of their Winter Ale. Really nice day and really nice setting. Had I gone at the weekend they run tours of the brewery.

Lucky strike on the way home as I passed the Grain Brewery so stopped in there and met the owner who was really nice and showed me round (plus tried to sell me an old mash tun). He was a really cool guy and I picked up a few tips and a couple of bottles of his beer :-).

Anyone near St Peters Hall should definitely drop in for a pint and some food. Slightly pricey but worth it.

I'm inspired to get a brew on. Better get my planning hat on.

I've been working away all week in Portsmouth/Fareham and had ALOT of hotel time with little to do. Made it my ambition this week to sample as many beers as I could (without losing my job) that were either local or not available back home in Leicester (not the beer capital of the uk).

So far I've sampled Hogs Back Brewery - TEA, had a pint of Gales' HSB from the local in Wickham (VERY nice), a bottle of Hidden Old Sarum (not so local). Tonight I have a bottle of Oakleaf - Hole Hearted and a bottle of Doom Bar. So far the HSB from the local pub has been my fave, plus the pub was really nice, chilled out and full of history.

Also had my fill of Old Thumper (might have to make the GW verison of this).

Good week of beer sampling and I've technically been paid for it <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />

Well that is the Norwich Beer Festival over and done with for another year and i have to say it was without doubt the best yet!

I tried to drink all 240 beers available over the week but instead had to settle for 38! Which is a record for me and no wonder my liver is saying stop!!!!!!

Not going to list all of them however, here is a few which i tried and if you get to try them you'll not be disappointed.

Adnams - Innovation 6.7% American Style IPA brewed with a blend of wheat and pale ale malts (didn't taste like 6.7%! be careful! deceptive.

Bees - Navigator 4.5% Amber beer with hints of toffee and tea

Beeston - Afternoon Delight 3.7% Medium Yellow in colour with hints of grapefruit and marmalade very good session beer..

Brewdog - 5am Saint 5% Enough said really....

Bristol Beer Factory - Acer 3.8% Ripe tangerine flavours very nice indeed

Bristol Beer Factory - No7 4.2% Toffee Malt flavours with smooth hop bitterness and aroma! Wow....

Cambridge Moonshine - Dark Mild 3.5% not normally a fan of milds but this was rather quaffable.

Cambridge Moonshine - CB1 4.2% very very nice...!

Cambridge Moonshine - Red Watch 4.5% - Light Red coloured blueberry flavoured bitter! MY FAVOURITE!.

Ossett - Silver King - 4.3% Real Lager... very nice session beer Dry citrus lager Pale Beer with a crisp dry flavour.

Tring - Side Pocket for a Toad - 3.6% Absolutely brilliant!!! my second favourite and great session beer.

Hope this has been of some use? I'm a bit of a spotter when it comes to festivals i mark them in my programme then rate them. <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_redface.gif" title="" class="bb_smilies" /> Does anyone else do this?

wetherspoons are great on prices... although my local has had all ales for £1.95 for quite a while. Haven't been in for a couple of weeks, looks like the budget has hit the prices.

Ruddles was £1.65 a pint. At that price (and with an ever-changing selection of good beer), it's difficult to go anywhere else.
Betty Stoggs - Nice bitter with very good hop finish
Cornish Knocker - Golden Ale with just the right balance of bitterness and hoppiness

Spent most of the week drinking Doombar because of the pub we like only has that and J**n Sm***s. It's OK but doesn't really explode with flavour!

Of course, the odd pint of Tribute and Proper Job were sneaked in when possible. Also can't beat a bottle of Chalkey's Bark.

Sainsbury's have a selection of Taste The Difference beers in - IPA, Kentish Ale, London Porter, all made by Shepherd Neame ... tried the IPA and the Kentish last night - instantly recognisable as SN's beers, rather lovely and only £1.12 a bottle!

Every week when we do the shop in sainsbury's I look to see if they have new beers (rarely) and I also look with longing at this:

I always wonder if it really is worth the £4.53 price tag. Anyway (as you've probably guessed) I bought one this morning as a treat (as I'm in the kitchen cooking all day). I really hoped that it was going to be crap so I wouldn't want one again... but, it is rather lovely. A true IPA - very high hopped and coming in at 7.5%. Very nice indeed and those hops last a good hour in the mouth <img src="http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/bb-plugins/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />

I also bought one of these, just because it was there (a bit like Everest). It was also considerably cheaper (£2.98). It is Sainsbury's own - or rather it has their name on it; haven't tried it yet as I'm still sipping the IPA (something I was 'advised' to do 'at that price' by the missus).

For the second time in recent months, I ended up going in to a pub that I had written off many years ago, only to be pleasantly surprised that a) it wasnt full of idiots, and b) that it had good beer. I visited the Little Creatures brewery a few years back during a trip to Oz (and if you're ever out that way its worth a stop off). Havent seen it much, if at all, over here. So was thrilled to find a well stocked fridge full of it last night. Bottle conditioned, really nice taste. Try it if you ever come across it.

I was thinking the other day about various beers that I've tried in bottle and cask and I couldn't think of one which was better bottled.

Most of the examples I could think of where so much better on tap, in fact most were a real disappointment in the bottle although I do like bottled ale (especially the one's which I've not managed to try on tap).

Does a beer exist which is better from the bottle?

Not sure if this is allowed, feel free to remove this thread if it counts as advertising.
Is it ok to post a few good places to buy ales from (I guess more obscure local ales rather than the main brewery ones.) Especially places to call in on when visiting other parts of the country.

I prefer to try new ales rather than stick to the same ones. Given I've generally tried all the offerings in supermarkets I tend to look for local variaties when out and about.

I'm not related to, or have any connection to the following places:
Darts Farm near Exeter. Just off the M5, if you're passing call in as it has a lot of Cornish, Devon and Dorset ales, plus quite a few from further afield. Reasonably priced and a discount on 12 bottles or more.

There is a similar type of place just south of Oxford off the A34, not quite as many as Darts Farm though.

Plenty of local farm shops around Salisbury which carry a fair few of the local beers (we are spoilt for breweries around here.)
Abbey Stores in the center of Salisbury and I believe the Post Office in the center of Downton (not the one on the main road, but up in the village opposite the Kings Arms/Wooden Spoon) also now sell a lot of local ales.

Very drinkable, only 3.6% so a proper session beer. Tastes fairly floraly but with a lovely buiscity malt after which lingers in your mouth for a while, not overpowering at all.

I don't like it, beer shouldn't taste of peaches, it's too girly (what would Al Murray think?) but it has intrigued me; no mention of hops or other gear on the label!

Well you've got to hand it to Wetherspoons. Love 'em or Loath 'em when they hold a beer festival they get some interesting beers on.

I was in my local The Queen of Iceni and they had Robinsons Young Tom on. Apparenty not brewed since 2001 they've made it especially for the festival.

It was a really nice pint too.

This full-flavoured dark bitter has a rich, fruity aroma yet a light palate. Its ripe malt character is superbly balanced by the hops. Hops: Golding, First Gold - I can concure with the taste notes that's for sure it's a lovely pint and £1.95 might pop in for another.

Was in Waitrose yesterday, both Brakspear and hobgoblin have 'free' glasses on offer for bottle tops. (Without going to look at the label), I think they both require a cheque for around the 5 quid mark; Brakspear needs three tops and hobgoblin only two.
Something like that anyway.

Like I need an excuse to buy more beer!

I've just opened a Fuller's Bengal Lancer which insists it's bottle conditioned.

I think it may have been conditioned in a different bottle to the one I bought it in.. No sediment.

Not a great deal of taste either really beyond the initial mouthful. Some nice bitterness but too much crystal.

Nowt special.

Really nice beer. Very hoppy in both flavour and aroma at pretty strong at 5.3%. I would describe as a tamed Punk IPA, smoother and less mouthwatering but along the same lines.

Very nice if you like that style (which I do!)

It comes in 330ml bottles and packs a whopping 8.5% abv. Has nice fruit cake flavours too. I thought it was going to be drinking engine oil but it was surprisingly nice compared to say Woodfordes Norfolk Nip which has the same abv.

Lovely high-hopped red/golden ale with real sharpness and an initial maltiness which unfortunately fades after a couple of mouthfulls. Slightly over-carbonated.

On the whole though, lovely refreshing beer with a lasting bitterness.

My good lady wife came home bearing gifts of Ale tonight and unusual ones at that.

The first one I've sampled was Wadworths Bishops Tipple. A nice golden coloured ale, 5.5% hopped with Saaz and Styrian Goldings. A really nice easy drinking (which is surprising at that ABV) ale. Give it a go if you see it.

Next up Badger Poachers Choice - True winter ale here. Dark amber, Fruity, liquorice not my normal style of beer but very drinkable. 5.7%. Could be an early night on the cards here.

Last one is a Wells Bombadier. Not sure if I'll make that as I had already had a pint of home made ale before I started on these. If I do then I'll keep you posted on that one.

I went into my local Wetherspoons today and had this ale Pinch Noggin.

A brewery from Blackburn in Lancashire it was one i'd not heard of before so decided to try it. Or should i say my other half suggested it.

Dark in colour and went down smoothly. It had a nice hoppy taste to it as well which i wasn't expecting. This lasted on your tongue before mellowing into a nice fruit flavour.

At 4.6% Abv i must admit it was very nice and if it wasn't for the fact i was driving i'd have had another one too.

One to try! Never had a wheat like it! its a wheat with a taste i would discrive as lambic/sour twinge! very nice but one that you couldn't drink too many at once due to the distinct taste.

Well yes its a lager but its one of the few lagers I drink that actually retains its head very well.

I think the taste is really nice and clean. Not as strong in the mouth as Grolsch, but has the abv to match it. I personally like my lagers around 3.5-4.5 (at the most) for an easy session bbq beer, but I reckon san miguel is a great refresher and has the added bonus of having that higher percentage kick to it.

Wonderful clear and sharp ale with a distinctive cascade taste and aroma. It was so pale in colour they must have used extra pale malt. Rarely see lagers as pale as this.

Punk IPA
What can I say Punk IPA is hoppy, the aim by the brewers was to brew a post modern classic beer with a twist and that twist was the addition of some of the brewers favorite hops including Chinook, Ahtanum and Nelson Sauvin which ups the flavor and bitterness. This is a beer that will tingle the taste buds! well worth a taste!

6% ABV, 330ml, £1.99 Tescos

Bought a bottle of this tonight after trying a bottle a couple of weeks ago.

Very gingery but really nice and refreshing. Probably 1 bottle is enough in one session though but give it a go if you see it, tastes really different.

Heres my first review!
Xingu Black Beer By Kaiser (Brasil)

Its a black lager it has slight a hint of chocolate, but a clean nose, slightly citrus profile. In the mouth it is sweet. followed by roasted malt and a nice hint of bitter hop taste, enjoyable and drinkable.

4.6% ABV, 355ml, £1.40, Tescos

Due to the fact that lots of the posts end up discussing brewery beers, I thought I would start a new forum so all the reviews on beers we have bought can be in one place for easy reference.

Tried a beer that you loved then let us know here so we can look out for them next time we are buying.

I'll kick things off as I enjoyed (possibly too much) a few pints of Ringwood Best in the local pub last night.

This is a caramel coloured fairly light (3.8%) best bitter and its lovely. I'm going to try and recreate using some cara red malt on my next brew day. Its a lovely pint, give it a try if you see it on draft.
